Goodbye SceneFeed and VideoWall, hello SceneFeed Beta!

SceneFeed and VideoWall were two pretty cool features of Carscene (if we say so ourselves) BUT they had 3 major issues.

1. You couldn’t submit your links easily
2. We decided what was worthy of inclusion
3. There was no way of you voting on what was fresh and what was weak

So, instead of carrying on the old way, we decided to completely change the way SceneFeed works and put all the power in your hands. You can submit, you can vote and you have the power to create a feed of the best South African Automotive Content*.

#carsceneZN x Custom Audioworx

Those more vigilant #carsceneZN fans might have noticed something different on the Kwa-Zulu Natal page this past week, the presence of an advert for a superb Durban-based custom automotive audio company called Custom Audioworx.

We’d like to welcome them on board and use this opportunity to plug their website which has the most gorgeous automotive audio and installation photography that we’ve seen in South Africa.

Botswana is cool; we like Botswana. That’s why we’ve decided to release #carsceneBW as our fourth hashtag and carscene.co.za/bw as our fourth location. Right now, the BW page only contains the tagboard but we have plans to fully equip it in the same way as the existing GP, WP and ZN pages are.

We’re looking forward to showcasing what’s happening in Botswana in the same manner as we’ve been doing in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.

So use the tag and represent your country!

Two months after rolling out Tagboard integration, we’re subtly changing how they work on Carscene.

Previously, the feeds available on the ZN, WP and GP pages were only moderated after posts appeared on the tagboards. This style of moderation was chosen in order to have the freshest province content available immediately but caused unwanted spam content to sometimes appear and take over the feed.

Bad news: the feeds are now moderated before posts appear in order to kill the spam.

Good news: you can still access the live, unfiltered feed by clicking LATEST.

In Summary

Tagboards still work “live” but not by default. Keep using the hashtags. Rep your ride, rep your events and most of all, rep your province.

Over the past weekend, we rolled out tagboard integration to the ZN and GP pages.

Why a tagboard?

Car events are happening all the time in our provinces but it’s impossible to be at every event. However, it would be nice to see what’s happening LIVE or catch up on the goings on afterwards. That’s hard though because there’s also no way to be friends with/follow/like every social media account that is posting about what went down. Carscene makes it easy; Just use a hashtag.

Hashtag?

Anyone (yes, anyone, including your gran if she’s cool like that) using the specific province hashtags (#carsceneGP & #carsceneZN) on the major social networks should* have their posts appear in that province’s feed. (Use Instagram and Twitter though, they work the best)

Why aren’t my posts appearing on the province page?

Twitter: Tweets cannot be protected
Instagram: Profile cannot be locked
Facebook Profile: Your link/status/picture was not marked as public (That should be enough to get it to work but Facebook has disabled access)
Facebook Page: Works only for individual status, link or image posts (cannot tag a facebook album for example) (can tag a link to album on facebook)
Google+: Post must be public
Your post was removed from the feed

Why was my post removed from the feed/why are none of my posts appearing in the feed/s?

Although hashtags are free for anyone to use, the tagboards on Carscene are moderated to ensure the best experience for our users.
Some (but not all) reasons for removing posts are that they are not province specific, are irrelevant, can be considered spam or only contain event posters or details. Submit your event here instead.

Should I install Instagram just because it works best with Carscene and a Picture is worth a Thousand words?
